On July 18, 2023, the Senate Ethics Officer reported his findings in an inquiry he carried out under the Ethics and Conflict of Interest Code for Senators (the “Code”) concerning Senator Michael L. MacDonald in order to determine whether he had breached his obligations under the Code in relation to certain comments he made on February 16, 2022 to a protester or someone who sympathized with the then-ongoing protest in downtown Ottawa, and that were captured in a video and widely disseminated on social media and by the national media.
The Inquiry Report, provided to Senator MacDonald on July 18, 2023, pursuant to subsection 48(15) of the Code, and which was thereafter deposited with the Clerk of the Senate, is available on the website of the Senate Ethics Officer by clicking here.
